FARMACIA LORDELO BY JOSE CARLOS CRUZ-ARQUITECTO, VILA REAL, PORTUGAL

The Pharmacy is located in Vila Real, in the north centre of Portugal and is part of a peripheral zone of the city where the environment does not have a consolidated and uniform image. In the absence of external references, it was chosen to create a building with an abstract and neutral character, reinforced by the absence of openings. With oval shape footprint, the two floors are fully aluminium coated corrugated and perforated. The only direct opening to the outside is the main entrance that gives access to the sales area. By changing the interior light and the symbol of pharmacy, the building gains dynamic, allowing the image variation from day to night. The store not only sells medicines but also has its own laboratory for compounding pharmacy.

La farmacia Lordelo se encuentra en Vila Real, en el centro norte de Portugal y forma parte de una zona periférica de la ciudad en la que el entorno no tiene una imagen consolidada ni uniforme. A falta de referencias externas, se optó por crear un edificio con un carácter abstracto y neutral, reforzándolo con la ausencia de huecos. Sus dos plantas, de forma ovalada, están recubiertas de aluminio corrugado y perforado. La única abertura directa al exterior es la entrada principal que da acceso a la zona de atención al público. Al cambiar la luz interior y el símbolo de farmacia, el edificio adquiere dinámismo, permitiendo su variación de imagen entre el día y la noche. La farmacia no sólo vende medicamentos, también tiene su propio laboratorio de formulación magistral.

The legal regulations define the program to install, opting for a clear distribution, by separating the spaces used by the general public and the internal spaces or retro-pharmacy. The depth of space prevents natural lighting of all spaces from the vertical openings, thus, taking advantage of a horizontal opening, pre-existing, around which are organized all the spaces, gets to illuminate the whole interior, naturally.

The Organization of retro-farmacia using a runner, not only allows the provision of a technical circulation, without colliding with the normal functioning of the establishment, but also allows the arrangement of spaces in its periphery, approaching them to the proposed Zenithal light. There is a neutral and reduced materials palette, always with hygiene requirements and potential spread of natural light. The wood comes as distinctive and central element, where the majority of exhibitors are located.

The exhibitors are standardized, having worked with a specialized company and thus typified and standardized solutions. The challenge was, in this instance, higher, using a modular e standardized system, aiming to design and create a unique space. La normativa de farmacias define el programa, dando lugar a una clara distribución que separa los espacios públicos y los internos o rebotica. La profundidad del local impide la iluminación natural de todos los espacios mediante los huecos verticales de fachada, por lo que se utiliza una abertura horizontal, pre-existente, en torno a la cual se organizan todos los espacios, consiguiendo iluminar con luz natural todo el interior.

La organización de la rebotica usando un corredor, no sólo permite una circulación técnica sin colisionar con el funcionamiento normal del establecimiento, sino que también permite la disposición de espacios en su periferia, que se acercándolos a la luz cenital propuesta. Se utiliza una paleta reducida de materiales neutros, que cumplan con los requisitos de higiene y hagan posible la propagación de la luz natural. La madera se presenta como elemento distintivo y central, donde se encuentran la mayoría de los expositores.

Los expositores están estandarizados, al haber trabajado con una empresa especializada y con soluciones tipificadas y estandarizadas. El reto era mayor, en este caso, pues usando un sistema estandarizado y modular, había que conseguir diseñar y crear un espacio único. El proyecto arquitectónico demostró que existe esta posibilidad y sin aumento de costes.
